The Yellow Pages is a household name, being ubiquitous in every home since before we were born. However, the Internet is slowly taking over their place. The Yellow Pages wants the people to know that they are still effective as opposed to their Internet driven counterparts, but of course, the online team says otherwise. In this battle between Google vs Yellow Pages, which of them is in the right? Which is really better?

Melbourne SEO Services, in an effort to answer once and for all which is better, conducted a survey in the streets of Melbourne and asked them questions such as: “How do you search for products and services you need?,” “What search engine do you use most?” and “How often do you use Google?”

The answer became clear once the results were tallied. A huge 53.85% of those asked said that they haven’t even touched the Yellow Pages the past year, while a unanimous 100% said they used google every day. Looks like Google wins hands down! So what do the Yellow Pages have over this Google vs Yellow Pages war? Very little. This survey by Melbourne SEO services is probably the best marketing viral video they’ve done in recent times. So be sure to check it out and vote for it to spread the word.

The survey however, is not all that points to the eventual demise of the Yellow Pages. According to SuperMedia, which is the United States’ Yellow Pages, profits in ’09 has suffered a huge decline. This will most likely continue to be the trend for the coming years as the Internet is slowly taking the place of the Yellow Pages as a source of information.

Based on the facts presented, it is obvious that in this Google vs Yellow Pages war, Google is winning. If you were to choose between searching for something using a fat yellow book while squinting your eyes or having to just type what you want then instantaneously getting the results you need, which would you prefer? The Yellow Pages still has some life to it though, as long as there are users willing to subscribe to it. But the number of readers are declining steadily, pointing to the eventual demise of the once venerable Yellow Pages.

People don’t really care what the differences between the two are, the ins and outs, how they work and what not. All they care about is getting the results they need in a blink of the eye. Simple and easy, without fiddling with pages. If you were to take a stopwatch and record the time it takes to make the same search using both media, almost always will Google win. That is of course, unless your Internet connection is working at a snail’s pace and what you are looking for is named “Aaron’s”, then the Yellow Pages would most likely win.

By any standards, Google looks to be the future of all things concerning information. Where the Yellow Pages was once king, it is now a distant second, even third place. If the future of books are threatened by the coming of the iPad and other technological marvels, what hope does the Yellow Pages have?
